The Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education program prepares graduates to obtain a Standard Professional 1 (SP1) Professional Educator's License for grades K-6. Program completers gain the necessary skills to fulfill both the North Carolina Professional Teaching Standards (NCPTS) and the ten core standards established by the Interstate New Teacher Assessment and Support Consortium (INTASC). These standards cover essential teaching competencies including content knowledge, student growth, working with diverse learners, instructional methods, classroom management, technology integration, lesson planning, evaluation techniques, professional reflection, and community engagement. The curriculum combines specialized coursework with hands-on field experiences across multiple educational environments, enabling students to implement research-backed teaching methods in elementary classrooms.
