The Graduate Program in Oral and Craniofacial Biomedicine equips students for research and teaching careers in academic or industrial settings, especially within oral health disciplines, while cultivating future leaders in oral health research.
At UNC-Chapel Hill, oral and craniofacial biomedicine involves investigating both healthy and diseased tissues of the mouth and facial structures, along with healing processes unique to oral conditions.

Contemporary dental research emphasizes understanding oral disease progression, early intervention strategies, and examining disease risk factors alongside cellular and molecular mechanisms. A key area of focus explores connections between oral health, overall wellness, and systemic diseases through fundamental, applied, and clinical research.

Our interdisciplinary curriculum bridges laboratory discoveries across immunology, genetics, tissue engineering, microbiology, and other fields to advance knowledge of oral disorders and develop therapies for craniofacial-related conditions.
