Human activities in marine environments, such as fishing, aquaculture, energy production, and tourism, have grown substantially over the last twenty years. Coastal regions represent some of Earth's most biologically productive and resource-abundant ecosystems, while simultaneously being among the most desirable locations for property development. The intersection of diverse uses, competing priorities, and economic and social reliance generates increasingly complicated challenges related to sustainability, environmental regulations, and resource governance. The Marine Education and Outreach Concentration equips students for professional roles in non-formal environmental education, marine-focused science communication, and coastal community engagement. This program also provides foundational knowledge for those pursuing advanced research or academic studies in environmental education and public outreach initiatives.
