The Department of Oceanography and Coastal Sciences (DOCS) utilizes interdisciplinary approaches in physical, biological, and geological oceanography to address critical challenges like coastal erosion, sustainable fisheries, and ecological threats. Ongoing studies examine wetland impacts from pollutants like hydrocarbons and synthetic toxins, coastal nutrient cycling of elements such as carbon and nitrogen, and ecological effects of heavy metal interactions in aquatic systems. Our internationally recognized faculty features specialists in predictive modeling and advanced geospatial analysis.
The thesis-based MS program mandates 24 graduate credit hours, incorporating four core area courses plus six thesis research credits. A minimum of 12 credits must be at the 7000-level. While the Graduate School doesn't specify a formal study plan, individual advisors and committees may establish additional requirements.
