Marine biologists specializing in oceanography examine aquatic ecosystems. Their objective is to develop predictive models of marine life behaviors and distributions, ranging from microscopic phytoplankton to top-tier predators. The EOAS department's ongoing investigations encompass diverse species from microbial populations to massive marine creatures across tropical and polar regions, spanning coastal zones to abyssal depths. Our multidisciplinary approach incorporates field studies, lab experiments, geospatial analysis, and computational modeling.
Students in the program engage in both laboratory and field research opportunities. Numerous participants join scientific expeditions at sea, while others may work in international partner labs. Given the cross-disciplinary nature of marine biology research, we regularly partner with experts in chemical, geological, and physical oceanography. These collaborations frequently extend to institutions worldwide. Students regularly showcase their findings at international scientific conferences across the planet.
