Our thesis-focused program offers a research-intensive curriculum that prioritizes experiential learning via an original thesis project guided by a seasoned marine science mentor. The T-track is designed to help students build robust research skills through tailored study plans that align with their academic goals, prior experience, and capabilities. MSMS-T participants enroll in required and elective coursework while undertaking a substantial independent research initiative. Collaborating closely with faculty advisors, students generate new insights or synthesize existing knowledge to advance marine science.
During the initial year, students assemble their advisory committee and finalize their thesis proposal. The subsequent year is dedicated to research, concluding with both written and oral thesis presentations and defenses. Full-time enrollment typically involves three courses per term, with most students completing the program in 4-6 semesters, depending on project complexity and time investment.
