Paramedics possess advanced knowledge, skills, and treatment abilities that far exceed those of Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs), significantly enhancing patient outcomes upon hospital arrival. Recognizing the critical need for these specially trained emergency medical professionals, the University of New Haven established its paramedicine program. This curriculum trains students to become a unique type of first responder - dually certified as both firefighters and paramedics.
Practical experience forms the cornerstone of your training. You'll accompany ambulance crews and monitor patients' vital signs. You'll rehearse CPR techniques and IV insertion procedures using sophisticated medical mannequins. You'll join emergency response teams handling various medical crises. The paramedicine program's objective is to provide the most realistic, hands-on education possible.
