Along with standard admission criteria for all applicants, those interested in the paramedicine program should ideally show strong aptitude in science and math subjects. Completing high school biology and chemistry with lab components, plus two years of algebra is highly advised. Some candidates may need to participate in an interview (either in-person or by phone) with the program director. We particularly welcome recommendation letters that highlight a student's capacity to handle demanding science coursework and their commitment to healthcare service. Note that certain criminal records may prevent registration/licensure through NREMT and state boards. Compliance with vaccination requirements from both the university and clinical partners is mandatory.
Paramedics possess advanced medical knowledge and skills that far exceed EMT capabilities, significantly enhancing patient outcomes before hospital arrival. Recognizing the critical need for these specialized emergency professionals, the University of New Haven established its paramedicine program. This curriculum trains students to become innovative first responders with dual certification in both firefighting and paramedicine.
Graduates will master theoretical concepts, practical applications, and assessment techniques essential for pre-hospital emergency care as EMT-Paramedics. The program qualifies students to take the National Registry Certification Exam and includes certifications in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), Emergency Pediatric Care (EPC), Pre-hospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS), Advanced Medical Life Support (AMLS), and Geriatric Emergency Medical Services (GEMS).
Applicants must have official certified copies of senior secondary/high school records.
English Language Requirement: TOEFL score (80 IBT) or IELTS score (6.5) or a PTE score (53).
Application Deadlines: Fall semester, priority deadline of June 1st; Spring semester, priority deadline of November 1st.
