Emergency medical technicians (EMTs) provide critical care to patients in urgent medical situations, where rapid response and skilled treatment can mean the difference between life and death.
Skyline College's EMT program equips students with comprehensive knowledge in human anatomy, physiology, disease processes, and emergency protocols, complemented by classroom instruction, hands-on practice, ER observation hours, and ambulance ride-along experience.
This foundational program serves as the initial step in the EMT career pathway, teaching all essential emergency equipment operation and supply management techniques expected of EMT-Is. The curriculum combines theoretical learning with practical campus training, hospital ER observation, and ambulance fieldwork.
Certificate requirements include maintaining at least a C grade, successfully completing clinical rotations, and passing all mandatory skills assessments.
Program applicants must pass a medical evaluation, provide immunization records proving they're free from contagious illnesses, and undergo a background check linked to their social security number.
