The Carsey School's Master's in Public Policy program equips future policy leaders with essential skills valued by employers in policymaking and advocacy sectors. You'll gain insights from field experts, network with professionals inside and outside Washington, D.C., and engage deeply with contemporary policy discussions. This program is designed for those committed to driving meaningful change toward a more sustainable future for communities, states, nations, and the world.
Our Master of Public Policy (MPP) provides the necessary tools to effect change in today's complex policy landscape. You'll master techniques for crafting innovative, lasting solutions to societal challenges through rigorous research and strategic communication. Beyond preparing you for diverse policy careers, our MPP program empowers you to tackle urgent local, national, and international issues that align with your passions.
The MPP program lets you tailor your studies to your interests while developing critical professional skills—analytical proficiency, strategic messaging, and policy advancement techniques. The curriculum incorporates hands-on learning experiences, including interactions with policymakers in Congress, federal agencies, and advocacy organizations during campus semesters and our Washington, D.C. colloquium. Gain real-world experience through policy internships and a capstone project, completing your MPP degree in just 14 months.
International applicants must hold a four-year baccalaureate degree or its equivalent as a precondition for applying to any of our graduate programs. In some cases, you may also need a master’s degree or its equivalent.
English Language Score:
Minimum score requirements are as follows: TOEFL (Computer-based): 213; TOEFL (Internet-based): 80; IELTS (International English Language Testing System): 6.5; TOEFL ITP (Institution Administered): On case-by-case basis; TOEIC (Test of English for International Communication): On case-by-case basis; Pearson Test of English (PTE) Academic: 59.
Applicants can apply to start in the fall, spring, or summer terms, by the following deadlines: Fall Term Start: August 15 (preferred July 1); Spring Term Start: December 15 (preferred December 1); Summer Term Start: April 15 (preferred April 1).
