The Master of Public Policy (MPP) is a specialized degree designed to equip students with the analytical tools needed to tackle critical regional policy challenges, including border security, environmental conservation, and natural resource management. With its regional focus, this program trains future leaders in policy analysis that will shape their communities and states.
Graduates of this MPP program gain qualifications for diverse public sector roles across government agencies at all levels, nonprofit organizations, and private consulting firms as policy researchers and analysts. The curriculum emphasizes policy evaluation, formulation, and problem-solving through both quantitative and qualitative methods. At the University of Arizona, the MPP degree provides graduates with enhanced policy knowledge for advancing careers in both public and private sectors. The program's academic intensity also serves as excellent preparation for doctoral studies.
Our program's goal is to train a diverse cohort of graduate students—including working professionals and those new to the field—to become effective leaders in government and nonprofit organizations. We develop students' analytical, communication, and management abilities while instilling public service values like ethics, accountability, and dedication to social equity. Through rigorous teaching, research, and community engagement, we advance public policy knowledge and practice.
The two-year MPP curriculum consists of 42 credit hours structured into three components: 24 core credits, 15 elective credits, and a 3-credit capstone project. Program advisors help students select electives that align with their specific policy interests and career goals.
