Forestry combines artistic and scientific approaches to oversee and preserve woodlands. Our multidisciplinary forestry curriculum emphasizes the sustainable stewardship of forests to maintain productivity, ecological balance, and species diversity. Graduates in forestry tackle pressing environmental issues like climate adaptation, responsible development, natural resource allocation, and species conservation. These professionals also safeguard and rehabilitate woodland habitats, ensure renewable timber supplies, create wildlife sanctuaries and leisure spaces, and maintain vital soil and water systems.
UNH's bachelor of science in forestry holds professional accreditation from the Society of American Foresters, standing among only four certified undergraduate forestry programs in New England. Situated in the nation's second-most wooded state, UNH offers an ideal setting for forestry education. The program prioritizes practical learning through extensive laboratory sessions and field studies conducted in university-owned forests and the White Mountain National Forest. Students have opportunities to engage in faculty-led research initiatives and UNH's EcoQuest international study program based in New Zealand.
Each student must have their official high school diploma or general equivalency diploma.
