Forestry is the scientific discipline, artistic practice, and applied management of forest lands and their natural resources for human advantage. These benefits stem from diverse forest resources including timber, water systems, wildlife habitats, recreational spaces, grazing areas, and environmental features. Forestry professionals oversee these multifaceted resources. Our primary educational goal is to deliver comprehensive training for effectively handling complex forest ecosystems. The urban forestry specialization combines studies in forestry, tree care, plant cultivation, metropolitan forest stewardship, and city wildlife management. Alongside general education, the program incorporates fundamental courses in conventional forestry. This curriculum equips graduates to assess, strategize, and solve challenges in both urban and rural forest settings. Since foresters frequently collaborate with public and private entities, we emphasize cultivating strong leadership and communication abilities. Beyond coursework, students must fulfill a 6-10 week professional internship (2 credits) during the summer before their final year, designed to meet specific educational goals set by faculty and onsite mentors.
