The Doctor of Philosophy in School Psychology program is grounded in an educational approach that prioritizes cultural diversity, adopts a systems-oriented perspective (cultural ecological framework), and blends scientific inquiry with practical application (scientist-practitioner model). Candidates in this doctoral program develop into health service psychologists (HSPs) specializing in school psychology, equipped to tackle psychological issues through both academic research and real-world implementation of psychological expertise. Graduates of this Ph.D. program qualify as certified school psychologists for educational settings, licensed HSPs for autonomous practice, and academic researchers eligible for university faculty positions. Doctoral candidates gain hands-on experience in schools, The PRACTICE (a community mental health center within the College of Education), and various community environments. The structured, intensive curriculum follows the training guidelines established by the American Psychological Association (APA), Nevada Board of Psychological Examiners (NBPE), National Association of School Psychologists (NASP), and Nevada Department of Education (NDOE).
