Students pursuing graduate studies in the CSIEME program focus on building both theoretical understanding and hands-on skills related to cultural, international, and multicultural aspects of educational practice. Their work encompasses diverse areas such as student learning research, teaching methods, curriculum creation and execution, reciprocal teaching-learning dynamics, educational measurement, media and visual arts, contemporary culture, reading/writing skills, digital literacy, textual analysis, local/global contexts, and fairness in education concerning both personal and societal development. This specialization demands active student involvement with matters of diversity including race, ethnicity, national origin, language, social class, gender identity, family structure, ability status, age, and belief systems as they appear in educational settings. Scholars in this field must gain thorough knowledge of various analytical perspectives, including critical theories, post-positivist approaches, constructivist models, and postmodern thought.
The CSIEME program combines three interconnected academic disciplines that foster cross-disciplinary and decolonial research and teaching methodologies.
At its foundation lies Multicultural Education, which employs critical teaching philosophies as tools for societal improvement by advancing democratic ideals of equitable justice.
By implementing critical educational approaches centered on knowledge acquisition, thoughtful consideration, and practical application, Multicultural Education actively embraces and supports - through fundamental changes in human relationships, academic content, and teaching techniques - the diverse backgrounds represented by learners, their support networks, and educational professionals.
