The Art Department provides students with visual arts training as a key component of a well-rounded education. Our degree programs deliver rigorous professional instruction in visual arts principles and aesthetics. Students also develop technical abilities and critical thinking skills essential for future success in creative and professional visual arts careers.
UNLV's BFA program requires an additional year of specialized study, allowing students to concentrate deeply on refining their artistic abilities and creative vision. Entry into the BFA program is determined through portfolio evaluation.
UNLV's Painting, Drawing & Printmaking specialization emphasizes two-dimensional artistic exploration. Students engage with diverse techniques such as intaglio, lithography, drawing methods, and painting media including watercolor, acrylic, and oils. Regular critiques help develop communication skills. Classes examine both historical and contemporary works, fostering comprehensive understanding within the specialization. Graduates complete the program with a professional portfolio that can launch careers as studio artists, facilitate admission to graduate studio programs, or open doors to art-related employment opportunities.
