Philosophy critically examines core ideas and presuppositions across key aspects of human life, such as religion, ethics, science, and artistic expression. The department provides a philosophy overview course suitable for all students, along with foundational classes in logical reasoning and contemporary topics. The standard philosophy program features historical surveys tracing philosophical thought from its origins in ancient Greek rational inquiry through to modern Enlightenment-era systems. It also covers principal branches of philosophical investigation: ethics (studying moral foundations), metaphysics (probing fundamental reality), epistemology (investigating knowledge boundaries), and logic (analyzing systematic reasoning approaches).
