The Master of Arts program in Classical Arts & Humanities (CAH) provides an interdisciplinary exploration of the ancient Mediterranean world, blending AMS studies with an elective field selected by the student (such as Art, Black Studies, Creative Writing, Digital Humanities, Music, Reception Studies, Theatre, Visual Studies, or Women's and Gender Studies). This program welcomes all students, regardless of prior ancient language training (all AMS courses are conducted in English), who aspire to develop intellectual or artistic careers outside conventional academic boundaries.
Estimated completion time: 2 years for MA, 3 years for PhD, totaling 5 years.
Program Requirements
72 cumulative graduate credit hours (7000+ level), with at least 30 at the MA level
24 MA credit hours must be completed on-campus at MU, plus either two 9-hour or three 6-hour semesters within 18 months during PhD studies
12 MA credit hours at seminar level (8000+), plus 3 additional PhD-level hours
Research, readings, and problems courses may not exceed 40% of total MA credit requirements
