Florida State University provides both an M.A. in Rhetoric and Composition and a Ph.D. in English with a concentration in Rhetoric and Composition. Our graduate curriculum centers on rhetorical and social practices alongside composition theories, with special attention to how texts, technologies, language, and literacy interconnect. The program establishes a comprehensive base through core courses in Rhetoric, Composition, and Research Methodologies. We embrace diversity in its fullest sense—encompassing race, gender, sexuality, ethnicity, language, (dis)ability, social class, and other social dimensions—which is reflected in our courses, research, professional growth, mentorship, and admissions. Numerous faculty and students within our program bring expertise and commitment to Writing Program Administration (WPA), covering areas like college composition, writing centers, digital studios, writing majors, and graduate programs. Graduate students acquire hands-on professional training and guidance through WPA roles, supported by dedicated coursework and faculty-student collaborations in WPA scholarship.
