The Department of Spanish and Portuguese provides two degree options: an MA in Portuguese and an MA in Spanish. Graduates typically pursue careers in secondary education or advance to PhD programs, while others secure roles in government or business. Approximately fifteen candidates join the program annually. This intensive curriculum is structured for completion within two years.

Bachelor's degree in Portuguese or other subject. If in another subject, you must have Portuguese courses equal to our Portuguese minor. Additional information may be obtained from the section heads of Linguistics, Literature and Pedagogy or from the graduate coordinator.
IELTS - Overall minimum band score of 7.0 (consisting of minimum band scores of 6.0 in each module)
TOEFL (paper based test) - 580
TOEFL iBT (internet based test) - Minimum subscores of 22 (Speaking) and 21 (Listening, Reading, & Writing respectively) comprising an overall score at least 85.
Graduate Record Exam (GRE)
Minimum score of 3.5 on Analytical Writing section
