The School of Languages and Cultures provides graduate programs culminating in M.A. and Ph.D. degrees, specializing in French, German, and Spanish literature. Students can also pursue an M.A. in Second Language Acquisition and Pedagogy with a focus on Japanese. The school collaborates with the Comparative Literature Program to offer M.A. and Ph.D. curricula.
For those interested in applied linguistics and linguistic studies, graduate programs are offered through the School of Interdisciplinary Studies in the College of Liberal Arts.
The M.A. requires at least 30 graduate-level credit hours (24 hours if opting for the thesis track). Ph.D. candidates must complete 60 course hours beyond their bachelor's degree, plus a dissertation (30 research credits). Full-time M.A. students typically finish in four semesters. Graduate students gain teaching experience at the college level during their studies. With an advantageous faculty-to-student ratio, personalized academic advising is available, and graduate courses maintain small class sizes.
