The M.A. in Literature Option is commonly chosen by those considering future enrollment in a Ph.D. program at another institution. In recent years, our alumni have successfully entered top-tier Ph.D. programs nationwide. Occasionally, this degree attracts secondary school educators and students exploring careers in private secondary education. Annually, approximately 8 students are admitted from a pool of 18-30 January applicants. M.A. candidates choose from graduate seminars covering American, British, comparative, and ethnic literatures, along with critical theory, cultural studies, poetics, environmental literature, postcolonial studies, and other disciplines. Following three semesters of rigorous coursework, students typically complete their studies with either a research thesis or portfolio project.
