This degree functions as both a professional qualification for careers in technical writing, industry, nonprofits, or educational administration, and as foundational preparation for doctoral studies in rhetoric, composition, communication, or technical writing.
Students gain both theoretical knowledge and hands-on experience, with specialized focus areas available: Professional Writing and Technical Communication, Composition Studies and Writing Instruction, Digital Rhetorics, Cultural Rhetorics, and a Custom Emphasis option.

have a baccalaureate degree in humanities, writing, communications, English, or a related field,
have completed a minimum of 18 semester credits in humanities, writing, English, or communications-related fields beyond the 100 level with a minimum GPA of 3.25.
The graduate programs in Rhetoric and Writing do not require or use GRE scores for admission purposes.
