Nutrition explores how essential and nonessential nutrients influence health and biological functions. This vast scientific discipline spans physiology, biochemistry, education, public health, and policy-making. The graduate nutrition program adopts an interdisciplinary approach, with advisors and funding potentially originating from various affiliated departments. These include Food Science and Nutrition (College of Food, Agricultural and Natural Resource Sciences), Epidemiology (School of Public Health), multiple Medical School departments (Medicine, Surgery, Psychiatry, Lab Medicine and Pathology, Family Medicine and Community Health), Kinesiology and Leisure Studies (College of Education and Human Development), Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (University of Minnesota Duluth), along with University of Minnesota Extension, Hormel Institute (Austin, MN), V.A. The preferred undergraduate GPA for admittance to the program is 3.00.
Applicants to the program need a bachelor's degree in any field or its international equivalent, along with demonstrated research ability such as a MS degree or publications.
