The Intercollege Nutrition PhD Program offered through the University of Hawaii Cancer Center (UHCC), John A. Burns School of Medicine (JABSOM), and collaborating departments enables students to design customized study paths with multiple focus areas. Candidates can pursue a Nutrition PhD specializing in human nutrition (covering biochemistry, cellular biology, public health, disease prevention, clinical applications, indigenous dietary practices, epidemiology, and cancer nutrition), animal nutrition (focusing on nutrient metabolism, physiology, health conditions, development, and aquatic species), or food science (including food chemistry, processing technology, microbiology, safety standards, and bioactive foods). Given the extensive academic offerings at the University of Hawai'i at Mānoa, students work closely with their advisors and graduate program coordinators to develop coursework aligned with their chosen specialization.
