The M.A. program caters to University of Michigan students enrolled in professional or academic programs outside philosophy who would benefit from graduate-level philosophical training. Admission is typically restricted to these students, with exceptions granted at the discretion of the admissions committee. Those wishing to transition to the Ph.D. program must apply through standard channels, competing with all other applicants without preferential treatment. Accepted Ph.D. candidates may petition to transfer M.A. coursework credits, though approval isn't guaranteed.
