The sociology of culture and knowledge program brings together faculty and students to investigate how social structures are shaped by ideologies, identities, concepts, representations, and the validation of knowledge across all analytical levels. This initiative fosters cutting-edge cultural research, examining phenomena ranging from daily interactions to sweeping societal changes - along with the processes that link them. While faculty members employ diverse theoretical viewpoints and research methods, they unite in their focus on fundamental questions about culture and knowledge. Some researchers examine knowledge creation, state development, empires, and global historical transitions, while others concentrate on identity development across lifetimes, influenced by factors like health, socioeconomic status, race, gender, nationality, and location. The curriculum begins with an introductory course on cultural analysis, providing students with essential methodologies and conceptual frameworks, followed by specialized courses that reflect faculty members' unique theoretical, methodological, and thematic expertise.
