The Social Welfare PhD program cultivates academic leaders and educators who enhance understanding of social work practices, welfare policies, and intervention approaches through behavioral and social science lenses, ultimately aiming to enrich lives across individuals, families, communities, and organizations.
Students collaborate with distinguished research centers like the Institute for Research on Poverty, Institute on Aging, Waisman Center, and School of Medicine and Public Health. They can select from diverse course offerings across top-ranked departments such as Sociology, Economics, Educational Psychology, Human Development and Family Studies, La Follette School of Public Affairs, Psychology, Gender Studies, Population Health, Nursing, and others.
International applicants must have a degree comparable to a regionally accredited U.S. bachelor’s degree.
