The Earth and Environmental Sciences Major provides students with comprehensive training across natural and physical sciences relevant to Earth and environmental studies. The curriculum requires mastery of fundamental concepts from key Earth science disciplines. This program equips students with a strong scientific background, enabling them to comprehend Earth system dynamics and address critical global issues including climate change, energy resources, mineral extraction, natural disasters, water management, environmental contamination, and sustainable development. Through hands-on experiences ranging from Wyoming field camps to worldwide research projects, Michigan students actively investigate Earth and environmental sciences. The Department provides: an Earth and Environmental Sciences Major with specialized tracks: (1) Earth Sciences, (2) Environmental Sciences an Honors Program a Teacher Certification Pathway for future secondary educators in earth and general science, plus Academic minors in Earth Sciences, Environmental Geology, Geology, Oceanography, and Paleontology
