The Integrated Learning Major (ILM) in Environment, Sustainability, and Policy equips students with interdisciplinary knowledge in environmental science, sustainability, and policy, fostering an understanding of our evolving planet. This program empowers students to develop sustainable solutions and cultivate global citizenship.
As humanity's expanding population strives to fulfill its needs, environmental pressures endanger Earth's life-supporting systems. Addressing planetary stewardship demands combining diverse scientific fields that study Earth's essential processes with insights into how human societies, across different regions and eras, influence environmental perspectives and approaches to resource management. The ILM rests on two critical foundations for solving environmental challenges: (1) environmental sciences exploring Earth's interconnected natural systems, and (2) environmental studies analyzing human attitudes, governance structures, and policies from social science and humanities perspectives. By bridging the gap between natural and human sciences, this major offers distinctive insights for comprehending and tackling environmental and sustainability issues.
