The University of Michigan's secondary teacher education program spans three terms, equipping students to educate grades 6-12. Beginning in your junior year, you can simultaneously pursue an undergraduate degree and Michigan state teaching certification. As a teaching intern (the program's term for future secondary educators), you'll instruct subjects you're passionate about. Gaining hands-on experience in professional classroom environments forms a crucial component of your training. During the initial two terms, you'll dedicate 68 weekly hours to classroom immersion as an intern. This involves observing live classroom dynamics, gathering insights on student progress and instructional methods, while actively supporting lessons through tutoring, collaborative teaching, and curriculum development alongside mentor teachers and university colleagues.
