Secondary education typically encompasses high school (though definitions may differ by district) and aims to equip students for higher education and professional paths. UAF's secondary education program offers initial teaching certification for grades 7-12. Pursue rewarding teaching positions throughout Alaska and globally by completing your bachelor's in secondary education at UAF. This program grants you a dual major—a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in your selected academic discipline alongside professional education certification. An academic advisor will assist in designing a customized course plan. The curriculum features a yearlong teaching internship supervised by an experienced educator, complemented by diverse fieldwork that reinforces classroom learning. Upon graduation, you'll possess a full year of practical teaching experience. This immersive training, combined with our extensive network of statewide school partnerships, gives our graduates a competitive edge in the education job market.
