The Bachelor of Science in Secondary Education with a Biology Major offers an extensive grounding in biological sciences alongside specialized teaching coursework for certification via the College of Education. Students explore life sciences, genetics, evolutionary biology, and foundational chemistry. The curriculum also includes pedagogical training and instructional strategies to effectively engage students with biological concepts. Graduates earn Michigan teaching certification with a Biology (DA) endorsement, qualifying them to teach Biology in grades 6-12. This program provides access to academic advising, scholarship opportunities, and involvement in activities through both the Biology Department (the major's home department) and the Department of Teacher Education (which oversees professional teaching coursework).
