After successfully finishing this degree program and submitting passing scores for the required licensing exams, you'll be eligible for initial teacher certification through the Hawaii Teachers Standards Board (HTSB), qualifying you to teach grades 6-12 in general education settings. The undergraduate programs combine a robust liberal arts curriculum with professional education coursework, subject-area specialization, teaching methodology training, and hands-on classroom experience. Enrollment in most teacher preparation courses requires classified status within the College of Education, with many also needing admission to State Approved Teacher Education Programs (SATEP). Detailed requirements for elementary and secondary Bachelor of Education programs, along with SATEP criteria, can be obtained from the College of Education's Office of Student Academic Services (OSAS). Students must complete all degree requirements based on the catalog year of their college admission, while licensure candidates must satisfy SATEP standards current at their program admission date. Note that SATEP requirements are subject to modification by the HTSB, and candidates must fulfill all licensure criteria in effect at their graduation date.
