The Master of Arts program caters to individuals seeking to explore philosophy more profoundly than during their undergraduate studies or those transitioning from different academic fields. This program serves as an excellent pathway for enhancing prospects of admission to top-tier Ph.D. programs, among other objectives. With no mandatory course distribution, participants can customize their studies according to personal academic interests. Additionally, candidates are required to develop and defend a thesis, which may serve as a valuable writing sample for doctoral program submissions. (Please note that admission to the M.A. program doesn't ensure subsequent entry into our Ph.D. program, as these involve distinct application processes.)
To complete the M.A., students must earn 24 graduate-level philosophy credits (maintaining a minimum 3.0 GPA) along with six thesis research credits. Typically completed in four semesters (two years) of full-time study, the program culminates with an oral thesis defense during the Spring semester of the second year.
