The Master of Science program in the Department of Mathematical Sciences features a foundational graduate curriculum along with focused studies in a selected specialization. Given that the available M.S. specializations vary considerably, sometimes quite substantially, gaining comprehensive insight into each concentration's requirements and prospects is crucial before making a selection.
The program aims to: (1) cultivate an in-depth understanding of mathematical sciences, including mastery and synthesis of fundamental concepts; (2) enhance mathematical research capabilities; and (3) foster interdisciplinary connections while strengthening verbal and written communication abilities. The Department provides graduate studies culminating in a Master of Science degree with a Mathematical Sciences major, offering concentrations in: Mathematics; Applied Mathematics; Mathematics Education; and Statistics. Mathematics M.S. candidates build robust expertise in mathematical sciences, refine their ability to communicate mathematical concepts effectively, and investigate cross-disciplinary applications. Typically, students complete the M.S. program within two years, often finishing sooner.
