UMass Lowell's Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) program equips students for professional practice in physical therapy. This fully accredited three-year program, which includes summer sessions, requires applicants to hold a bachelor's degree.
Students gain thorough training in both the theoretical and practical aspects of physical therapy through diverse teaching approaches. These include traditional lectures, small group problem-solving sessions, and hands-on laboratory work combined with clinical rotations. The program particularly focuses on cultivating clinical judgment and analytical thinking throughout all coursework.
Clinical training involves three intensive placements (one 10-week and two 12-week sessions) totaling 34 weeks. These rotations expose students to different healthcare environments and patient demographics, preparing them for broad clinical practice.
