This academic program equips graduates for roles in higher education or research institutions within Exercise Physiology, Kinesiology for Individuals with Disabilities, and Sports Medicine fields. The Ph.D. program's core objective is to cultivate expert researcher-scholars qualified for diverse positions in public and private higher education institutions. Graduates will possess the skills needed for careers as academic faculty, clinical practitioners, or research specialists in university or clinical environments.
The Sports Medicine specialization prepares students for teaching and research positions in athletic training, physical therapy, and related musculoskeletal injury disciplines. This rigorous, research-driven track features advanced coursework and intensive research components leading to dissertation completion. Participants collaborate with Sports Medicine faculty as well as experts from kinesiology, orthopedics, rehabilitation medicine, and other university departments.

Admission requirements that apply specifically to this program are listed below:
Sports Medicine Focus Area: Preference is typically given to applicants who are certified athletic trainers (ATC) or licensed physical therapists. Applicants must also provide a writing sample (5-10 pages), a goal statement (1-3 pages), and 2 letters of recommendation with at least one from a faculty member.
