The Master of Public Health (MPH) with a Health Equity specialization is a 45-credit, interdisciplinary professional degree program. This school-wide initiative is currently overseen by the Department of Health Services Administration. The Health Equity MPH prepares students to become public health professionals who specialize in identifying, analyzing, and addressing health disparities through both research and practical applications. These disparities manifest across various populations, including racial/ethnic communities, geographic locations, genders, sexual orientations, age groups, and individuals with disabilities. Public health experts and healthcare professionals are essential in detecting these inequities and advancing health equity initiatives.

This distinctive Health Equity MPH program offers an interdisciplinary curriculum, allowing students to take courses throughout UMD-SPH departments and across the university campus. Graduates gain specialized knowledge to incorporate health equity principles into public health careers at multiple levels. Employers ranging from local and state health departments to national organizations like NIH and CDC, along with academic institutions, community organizations, and major healthcare corporations (including hospitals and insurers), seek public health professionals with expertise in health disparities. These professionals develop, execute, assess, and oversee programs and policies aimed at achieving health equity for the populations they serve.
