The University of Virginia's School of Medicine's Department of Public Health Sciences collaborates with the Batten School to provide a combined degree program enabling students to earn both MPH and MPP degrees in three years rather than the typical four years required if pursued separately. This intensive MPP-MPH program requires careful consideration - students should only enroll if they can demonstrate how both degrees align with their professional goals, as simply saving one year from the standard five-year timeline isn't sufficient justification. The three-year curriculum includes the full first-year coursework from both schools, followed by a year of selected classes from both programs and potentially other University graduate courses. Admitted students can choose whether to begin at the Batten School or School of Medicine, then complete their second year as a first-year student at the alternate institution.
