The Hospital and Molecular Epidemiology (H.M.E.) program focuses on combining laboratory techniques with epidemiological and biostatistical approaches to human health. The curriculum covers epidemiology, biostatistics, and specialized lab courses in microbiology and molecular biology. Students can pursue the M.P.H. in H.M.E. through either a 42-credit or 60-credit track, both designed to develop expertise in hospital and molecular epidemiology. Most applicants have undergraduate degrees in biology or related fields like premedical studies, nursing, zoology, or microbiology. Doctoral degree holders (M.D., D.D.S., D.V.M., Ph.D.) can complete the 42-credit program in three terms, while those needing additional training may require more time. The 42-credit track prioritizes lab research in bacteriology and virology, whereas the 60-credit program, typically completed in four terms, includes mandatory fieldwork or lab experience in a relevant discipline.
