The Department of Hearing and Speech Sciences provides a Master of Arts program focusing on Speech, Language, or Hearing Sciences, offering both thesis-equivalent and non-thesis pathways. This master's program is academic rather than clinical in nature. Participants will gain essential understanding of core and practical sciences related to speech, language, and hearing, while developing awareness of the field's scientific foundations. The curriculum involves graduate-level classes from the Department of Hearing and Speech Sciences or other approved UMD departments, subject to approval by the student's Program Planning Committee or academic advisor along with two other faculty members. Degree completion requires a minimum of 36 academic credit hours.
