The Social Psychology concentration is designed to cultivate a strong foundation in both theoretical knowledge and empirical research within the field, while exploring how such research can address real-world challenges. This program primarily prepares students for careers in academia and research.
Following an apprenticeship approach, the social psychology track pairs students with faculty mentors to conduct theory-based investigations. The curriculum emphasizes developing conceptual thinking skills and mastering research techniques, statistical analysis, academic writing, public speaking, and instructional methods. Throughout their time in the program, students maintain active research involvement while refining their individual scholarly focus.
Faculty expertise spans diverse areas including bias and discrimination, self-concept formation, cognitive processes in social contexts, political behavior studies, belief systems analysis, and physiological aspects of social interaction. The program actively supports interdisciplinary exploration at the crossroads of social psychology and related disciplines
