The research curriculum is ideal for students planning to advance to doctoral studies or enter academic careers. Those in the research track should enroll in advanced research and statistics courses and must develop a master's thesis exploring original concepts in sports psychology or physical activity. Thesis projects will require an oral defense. With faculty approval, research track students may engage in select practical experiences such as co-consulting or observational opportunities.

A professional goal statement describing the applicants professional background, motivations for seeking a graduate education in SEP, why the current program and desired track are an ideal fit, and career/research aspirations.
Three letters of recommendation. At least two must be from a person with direct knowledge of applicants academic capabilities (e.g., instructor, research supervisor, advisor, etc.). An undergraduate degree in a field closely related to sport and exercise psychology (e.g., psychology, exercise science, health and/or wellness, health sciences, etc.).
A minimum cumulative undergraduate GPA of 2.75 (on 4.0 scale)
Minimum GRE scores of: 146 verbal, 146 quantitative, 2.75 analytical.
Personal interview (for those invited) For the Graduate School, the minimum acceptable TOEFL score is 550 (paper-based) 213 (computer-based), or 79 (internet-based). The minimum IELTS score is 6.5
