The Doctor of Philosophy in statistics mandates at least 76 semester hours of graduate coursework, incorporating credits from the MS degree. While the Graduate College sets a minimum 3.00 GPA for PhD graduation, the Department of Statistics and Actuarial Science enforces a stricter 3.40 GPA requirement for the Statistics PhD. This applies to all degree-related courses plus any supplementary courses relevant to the student's academic path.
PhD candidates fulfill core coursework across four specialization tracks: biostatistics, probability/mathematical statistics, data science, or actuarial science/financial mathematics. They may supplement their studies with courses or seminars from other departments to connect their specialization with other disciplines, develop digital computing proficiency, or acquire foreign language skills for academic research and international scholarly communication.
