The Department of Statistics at Florida State University provides doctoral programs in both statistics and biostatistics. Each student's curriculum and specific degree requirements are customized in collaboration with their advisory committee. The biostatistics PhD curriculum focuses on theoretical foundations, methodological advancements, and practical implementation of biostatistical and computational approaches. Meanwhile, the statistics PhD program concentrates on the theoretical underpinnings and methodological innovations in statistical science. For both doctoral tracks, students work closely with their advisory committees to tailor their academic plans. Both programs mandate comprehensive training in statistical theory and include a qualifying exam typically administered in the Spring semester of the second year. Additionally, candidates must complete a prospectus examination, generally occurring during their third year in the program.
