The department primarily focuses on the PhD curriculum, typically awarding master's degrees only as an intermediate stage toward doctoral completion. Students will:
acquire comprehensive expertise in two primary fields of the discipline while developing proficiency in one secondary area (which may be interdisciplinary or from a related field),
master sophisticated research techniques, encompassing advanced statistical methods and familiarity with diverse theoretical and methodological frameworks pertinent to their specialization,
develop effective teaching abilities aligned with the discipline's pedagogical expectations,
understand and adhere to professional standards, including ethical considerations in research, academic engagement, public interaction, and instructional practices, and

Qualification Requirements
Bachelor's degree at an accredited university.
Undergraduate grade point average of at least 3.3 on a four point scale (or its equivalent for foreign applicants).
Three letters of recommendation from persons who can comment upon the applicant's academic ability and motivation.
Foreign students whose native language is not English must achieve a TOEFL iBT score of at least 100 or an IELTS score of 7 with no subscore lower than 6.
For applicants who have done graduate work elsewhere, we require a graduate grade point average of at least 3.5.
Due to the structure of our curriculum, new doctoral students must enter the program at the beginning of the fall term.
