This specialization is designed for students interested in exploring how politics intersects with health policy through research. Participants will analyze frameworks related to individual belief systems, electoral patterns, government structure, and advocacy group development. They'll also investigate how public sentiment, lobbying organizations, news outlets, and governing bodies shape health policy decisions. The program emphasizes survey techniques and statistical analysis suited for extensive datasets. Those completing this track will typically pursue academic careers or research positions, engaging with governmental agencies, professional associations, and advocacy organizations on studies concerning policy dynamics within public health and healthcare systems.

Qualification Requirements

You must submit a completed online application, three letters of recommendation, a personal statement, a resume/CV, official GRE or GMAT scores (required for the Management concentration; standardized tests are optional for all other concentrations), and transcripts from any schools attended. Additionally, applicants whose native language is not English and who do not hold the equivalent of a US Bachelor's degree from an institution at which English is the language of instruction must submit scores from the Internet based test (IBT) of the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or International English Language Testing System (IELTS). GSAS welcomes applications for admission from individuals who have or will have by the time of matriculation a BA, BS, or equivalent undergraduate degree (for prospective international students, a three- or four-year undergraduate degree from an institution of recognized standing) and actively seeks applicants from groups historically underrepresented in graduate schools. Applicants are required to upload transcript copies from each college/university they attended into our online application system: official hard copy/paper transcripts are not required at the time of application. Applicants who are non-native English speakers and who received their undergraduate degree from an academic institution where English is not the primary language of instruction must prove their English proficiency by earning either a minimum score of 80 on the Internet based test (iBT) of the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or a minimum score of 6.5 on the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) Academic test.
