Our Ph.D. program seeks candidates who demonstrate exceptional academic potential and whose research interests align with our Department's strengths. Applicants should possess a well-defined intellectual direction.

A distinctive feature of our program is the close collaboration between faculty and graduate students. We admit 9-11 Ph.D. candidates annually - a cohort size that fosters diverse perspectives while maintaining personalized faculty mentorship for each student.

We actively connect our graduate students with the wider political science community. Through our Dauer Lecture Series, distinguished scholars visit campus to share cutting-edge research and engage with our academic community. Students receive departmental and institutional support to present their work at regional and national conferences.

Our Professional Development Program equips Ph.D. candidates with essential career skills through workshops covering graduate school success, conference participation, funding applications, and job market preparation.

The Political Science Graduate Student Council collaborates with faculty on student initiatives and operates a mentorship program to guide new doctoral students through their first year.
