The MFA program is designed to help designers establish themselves as leaders in industrial design. Through close collaboration with faculty and fellow students, you'll explore the principles and methodologies driving modern industrial design. The graduate curriculum in Industrial Design encompasses diverse coursework, including design research, innovation, sustainability, business development, and design theory. Each semester, students work at assigned stations in the graduate studio while participating in studio courses. The program also includes seminar classes, electives, and interdisciplinary courses across the university, with chances to participate in sponsored research and team-based projects. Central to the graduate experience is analyzing evolving societal trends, human requirements, advanced materials, cutting-edge technologies, and innovative product design possibilities. With a focus on user-centered design and research-driven practice, the program covers everything from physical products to service systems and user experiences. The MFA concludes with a Thesis project, archived with the Graduate College and showcased in the Krannert Art Museum's Masters exhibition. Students can complete the program in either two or three years.
